The Legal Services Commissioner’s core function is to receive and resolve complaints about lawyers.
Established on 12 December 2005 under the Legal Profession Act 2004, the Legal Services Commissioner replaces the Legal Ombudsman and three other bodies that previously dealt with complaints about lawyers. All regulatory power and critical decision-making for the investigation and prosecution of complaints are now vested in this one independent agency.
The Legal Services Commissioner also has an educative role, which includes educating both the legal profession and the general public about issues of concern.
We are available to talk to legal associations, community groups and education bodies about the work of the Legal Services Commissioner. Contact us.
